The key contradicting words in this image (atheists THINK, (insert religion) KNOW) underly some (not all) atheists generalizations supporting the belief that religious people do not “think”.
the first part is a christian joke, so there goes that argument.
I consider myself to be mildly atheist (what?) , but this image does not speak for my ethical beliefs . The thing I dislike most about religions is the fact that organized groups with defined rules and beliefs are necessary for the shared ideas to be called a religion. To be a member of groups such as these one must conform their ideas and values to meet the standards of the group. Atheism is not a religion, therefore they don’t share similar group values, only the lack of a belief. It’s unfair to assume the values of atheists, and this picture does just that by implying all atheists share the same judgmental tendencies toward Christians (does it?). I understand that this picture is supposed to be humorous, but it also claims to represent the moral values of all atheists (really?) (myself included… but just a mild part), which it does not.
Sorry for the lengthy response, but its things like this that keep people in constant controversy. This narcissistic attitude towards something as intangible as religions and philosophy is the reason behind the chaos and violence we see in this world. The belief that one way of thinking is right while all else is wrong (this image even goes as far as suggesting Christian thinking is silly by using the word wizard) is the cause of some of the most horrific events in history (9/11, Holocaust, medieval slaughtering of countless ‘heretics’, etc). I understand why some people agree with the message of this image, but I don’t understand when those people consider themselves to be peacemakers and open-minded individuals.

my remarks in bold. Also, I think that Charles Darwin was responsible for the holocaust (just kidding) not the belief that one way is right…. (but one way is right, right?). I think the irony here is that this picture is a response to anti-atheist propaganda. This is a good example of the fact that most militant atheists have gotten that way because atheists are the most hated minority (and would be the most discriminated against if it were a physical distinction) in America. More of us need to come out of the proverbial atheist closet.

I wasn’t aware that this poster was a response to an anti-atheism poster, but a poster-in-poster all-in-one creation by the one creator supporting atheism over christianity. I don’t have a problem with the poster if that’s the case, except that the creator specifically attacks christians when the original poster could’ve been created by someone of any religion.

“mildly atheist”. maybe “cautiously atheist” would be a better description. I’m not fully confident in my belief that a god does not exist, but I haven’t heard anything to contradict that belief. I’m not as convinced as you are about your beliefs, I don’t think it’s important for atheists to come out of the proverbial closet.

Whose to say Darwin’s theory of evolution is right? Sure evolution has been proven as a fact, but the theories behind evolution are very debatable. For example, Darwin stated that all life came from non-life, something that can be debated, with both sides being uniquely right, so there isn’t just one right way of thinking. The scientific community is constantly learning new facts about evolutionary mechanisms and theories are always changing. That’s besides the point anyway.
